The Royal Oak.

It was the design that made Gerald Genta's career and remains, without question, the most celebrated collection in Audemars Piguet's near 145-year long history.

In 1993, the Royal Oak line expanded to include the Offshore Chronograph, which drove the bulk of sales for AP in the past few decades. Debatably, the Offshore is responsible for carrying AP into the 21st century and ushering it into the powerhouse position in which it exists today. 

The Offshore that we have here, a limited edition piece for the Italian F1 driver Jarno Trulli, features a 42mm forged carbon case with a sapphire crystal, a signed titanium crown, titanium pushers, a titanium screw-in octagonal bezel, and a signed black rubber strap with a signed titanium deployant clasp. Inside, it has a grey 'macro-tappisserie' dial with applied red paint-filled indices and silver subsidiary registers, a matching handset, and a  AP's automatic winding Calibre 3126/3840 chronograph movement, visible via a numbered and signed sapphire exhibition caseback.

This is a watch that successfully marries haute horlogerie with a tactical aesthetic.

The Offshore has become a phenomenon on its own and is, perhaps, one of the most important watches of the 1990s.
