WHY WE LOVE IT

When the name 'Steve McQueen' is associated with wristwatches, it is generally used to describe the iconic Heuer Monaco worn in the racing film Le Mans, his Rolex Submariner 5512, or even the Rolex 1655 Explorer II 'Orange Hand' that has come to bear his nickname due to a decades-old misidentification that just won't die.

While those watches are all relatively well-known and documented, McQueen also had an affection for a rare, little-known Hanhart flyback chronograph Reference 417ES, which he sported on a leather cuff strap. McQueen also made film appearances with the watch, including in The War Lover.

Estimates suggest only about 500 of these German military chronographs were produced in solid stainless steel, whereas the majority were cased in chrome-plated brass. This particular iteration is neither — a contemporary reissue, it’s cased in solid bronze, making for a unique look that still retains its McQueen-approved swagger!

Housed in a 39mm bronze case with a sapphire crystal, a signed crown, dual bronze barrel pushers, and a bi-directional bronze indicator bezel, it features a luminous sunburst brown dial with luminous ‘Arabic’ indices, an outer white 1/5th-seconds track, a matching ‘syringe’ handset, and a dual-register chronograph with 30-minute and running second totalizers.

Powered by the Swiss-made Sellita SW510 automatic chronograph movement, this Revolution Magazine limited edition is paired to a signed, brown leather ‘Bund’ strap with a signed, bronze pin buckle and is limited to just 200 units worldwide.

Regardless of whether or not you’re a McQueen devotee, it’s tough to deny the appeal of this handsome, badass bronze chronograph. Once you get it on your wrist, we’re sure you’ll agree!

OVERALL CONDITION

The case is in outstanding, as-new condition showing only faint wear from careful handling. Luminous sunburst brown dial with recessed subsidiary registers and 'Arabic' indices is in as-new condition with matching handset. Signed crown. Limited edition caseback numbered 144/200.
